Shipping Industry Leaders to Feature in Commodores’ Debate at CMA Shipping 2025

Influential figures from Fairfield Chemical Carriers, Teekay Shipping, Poten & Partners, Dorian LPG and Macquirie Bank set to feature in Commodores’ Debate at CMA Shipping 2025.

Leaders from Fairfield Chemical Carriers, Teekay Shipping, Poten & Partners, Dorian LPG, and Macquirie Bank are confirmed to feature in the eagerly-anticipated Commodores’ Debate at CMA Shipping 2025, which will tie up three days of conversation with one simple question: what is the new normal for doing business across the shipping industry?

Now in its 40th year, CMA Shipping will take place April 1 – 3, 2025, at Stamford Hilton in Stamford, Connecticut. The Commodores’ Debate will take place on the final day, bringing together past CMA Commodores to join President and CEO of Fairfield Chemical Carriers, Todd Clough, who was announced as the 2025 CMA Commodore.

Moderated by President of Marine Money, Matt McCleery, this year’s debate will focus on considerations for doing business in the context of complex systemic challenges, acute volatility and an imperative to change. McCleery will be joined by:

  • Todd M. Clough - President and CEO, Fairfield Chemical Carriers Inc. and CMA Commodore 2025

  • Michael D. Tusiani - Chairman Emeritus, Poten & Partners, Inc. and CMA Commodore 2024

  • Lois K. Zabrocky - President and CEO, International Seaways, Inc. and CMA Commodore 2020 & 2021

  • John C. Hadjipateras - Chairman, President and CEO, Dorian LPG Ltd. and CMA Commodore 2019

  • Peter Evensen Past President and CEO (ret) - Teekay Shipping Corporation and CMA Commodore 2013

  • Morten Arntzen - Senior Shipping Industry Advisor, Macquarie Bank and CMA Commodore 2007

“It is an honour to be named as the CMA Commodore for 2025, especially during a milestone year for CMA Shipping,” said Todd Clough, President & CEO, Fairfield Chemical Carriers Inc. and CMA Commodore 2025.

“I am hugely looking forward to the Commodores’ debate, where I will be joined by five previous Commodores for a frank and honest conversation about where we are now as an industry; what our priorities are both in the long and short term; and where our blind spot is as we seek to remain competitive in a responsible, compliant, and of course, safe way,” added Clough.

The Commodores’ Debate is a highly popular feature of CMA Shipping and provides the perfect conclusion to the three-day conference. This year’s speaker roster boasts over 100 leading experts, who are set to cover key issues and trends surrounding the future of shipping including geo-political disruption, alternative fuels, ship financing, and digital transformation. The third day of talks will put a special emphasis on seafarer safety and well-being, while an extension to the main conference will see leaders take to the brand-new, free to attend, Expo Stage to focus on technical innovation and safety across the maritime sector.

“While the Commodores’ Debate continues to be a highlight for many at CMA Shipping, the strength and diversity of content that will take place in the days beforehand will provide the perfect prelude,” said Chris Morley, Group Director of Maritime and Logistics at Informa Markets.

“From its inauguration in 1985 as a luncheon for members of Connecticut Maritime Association, CMA Shipping has since gone on to establish itself as a cornerstone of North America’s maritime and logistics industry. It will be an absolute pleasure to celebrate the last four decades with our community as we chart course for the future of this important industry event,” added Morley.

Brought to the industry by the Connecticut Maritime Association and organised by Seatrade Maritime - Informa Markets, CMA Shipping is open for registration, and will return to Hilton Stamford, Connecticut, from April 1 – April 3, 2025.
